Tsarskoye Selo (‘the Tsar’s Village’) lies 24 km to the south of St. Petersburg. It is one of the finest examples of a royal country residence. The highlights of the architectural ensemble are the Catherine’s Palace, built by the architect Rastrelli in the Baroque style over 200 years ago, and the beautiful 1,500-acre park. Famous Russian and European architects created the interiors of the palace, the pavilions and summer houses in the parks.
An important reason for visiting Tsarskoye Selo is to see one of the wonders of the world – the recently restored Amber Room attracting thousands of tourists from all over the world.
