World Championships TV programme

On the 30th of May, 2009 Russia Television Channel made a TV programme dedicated to the preparation of the 16th World ITF Taekwon-do Championships in St.Petersburg.
Mr. Mikhail Shmelev, St.Petersburg Taekwon-do Federation President and Head of Organising Committee was invited to the studio as a guest.
The programme was conducted by Mr. Nikita Gulin, one of the most popular Russian TV sports journalists.
The talk was about readiness for hosting the World Championships, unification of Taekwon-do, Russian competitors chances for the forthcoming Championships and world crisis influence on the Championships organisation. Mr. Shmelev told the crisis undoubtedly influenced some preparation aspects but common efforts of the Taekwon-do Federation, Sports Ministry and numerous Taekwon-do friends will have to make these Championships a real sports festival.
Mr. Shmelev in particular mentioned support of City Government and St.Petersburg Sports Committee

Mr.Gulin congratulated the Russian Taekwon-do Federation on marvellous performance at the Europen Championships 2009 in Slovenia and wished every success at the forthcoming World Championships.
Mr. Shmelev told about the ITF Congress, the Umpire’s Seminar, great kids’ festival to be held together with the Championships as well as a new electronic scoring system. All this will help Taekwon-do development in the whole of the world.
