We invite you to take a trip back in time and watch the Photo Gallery of the 10th World Taekwon-do Championships held in St. Petersburg in 1997.

Saint-Petersburg hosted the 10th Jubilee World Championships in July 1997, when about 1200 competitors from 70 countries took part in the event.
The 10th Championships were widely covered by the mass media as around 300 of foreign and Russian journalists were accredited for the event. The high level of the World Championships organisation was appreciated by the leadership of the International Taekwon-Do Federation.

“Nothing could make me more happy than the site I saw in Saint-Petersburg. Beauty of the city astounded me. I was very glad to find out that skill and technique of Russian sportsmen is at the highest level that means that your instructors are very professional. I would like to express special gratitude to Mikhail Shmelev, who managed to organise for us the real festival. I hope he will reach the highest tops in Taekwon-Do. I am a happy man, as my life will proceed in my pupils, in my martial art. I am sure, that Taekwon-Do will conquer all the world and it will be presented at Olympic Games.” said the Founder of Taekwon-Do General Choi Hong Hi to journalists at the Championships.

We hope the words of this legendary person will be also true for the 16th World Championships 2009. We are sure that his dream about the participation of ITF Taekwon-Do in Olympic games will come true thanks to the efforts of the current President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation Prof.&Doc. Chang Ung, IOC member.
We will try to do our best to conform to the high level of all the competitions organised by ITF.
