World Championships inspection

The XVI World Taekwon-do ITF Championships will be held in the city of Saint-Petersburg on October 12-17, 2009.

On May 14-16 during preparation for the World Championships, the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) representative Master Kim Yong Hun (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) payed a visit to our city to carry out an inspection of preparatory work.

Being the Organising Committee members, Master Kim Yong Hun together with St. Petersburg Physical Culture and Sports Committee Chairman Mr. V. Chiazov and St. Petersburg Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) President Mr. M. Shmelev were received by Vice governor of St. Petersburg Mr. V. Tikhonov in Smolny (the seat of city’s government).

They discussued the matters concerning the city’s readyness to host the World Championships, among which the matter of visa support for the Championships members and guests, Championships backup, security, accommodation. Special attention was paid to information support, the Mass Media relations, Championships advertising campaign.

The meeting participants agreed to form the Championships headquarters composed of representatives of all the institutions involved in preparatory work: Migration service, Customs, border guards, militia, St. Petersburg Sports Committee, Taekwon-do Federation, YubilejnySports Complex, etc.

The level of preparatory work was highly appreciated and Master Kim Yong Hun said he was hoping to see the city would show its skill of hosting great world events at the XVI World Taekwon-do ITF Championships once again.
